This sign or mural is
bittersweet to me. I’m pretty sure it was a happy birthday greeting to Charli
Scott, since the date of the picture is 11/25/13 and Charli Scott’s birthday is
11/29. The reason it’s bittersweet is because Charli Scott disappeared a few
months later, in February 2014, and she was pregnant. As the months wore on,
and the searches proved futile, the unsolved mystery of Charli Scott’s
disappearance haunted the Maui community. It’s a small island, and this kind of
crime or foul play is not common. Finally, in June of 2016, Charli Scott’s
remains were discovered. Her boyfriend was found guilty of murder.

This next mural at the
Hookipa WWII pillbox was painted around March 4, 2014, the date of this photo. Her family and friends loved her, as you can
see by all the hearts. By this time, Charli Scott and her unborn child were
missing for a few weeks. By this time, it was too late to save her. I've been thinking a lot of Charli Scott lately - and one of the books I read, The Intention Experiment, suggests that you can send healing energy and love across time, or back in time, so if you are so moved, feel free to send her a prayer through time.

This last mural at the
Hookipa pillbox was painted 1/12/15 after the terrorist attack and killing of
12 people in the office of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine in France.
Around the world, people in solidarity with the victims, proclaimed “Je suis
Charlie.” By the way, you'll see an earlier version of this street art in the blog post for the letter F in this series.
