Bananas, Bees, and Butterflies: Street Art

Bananas. Sometimes the Hookipa WWII pillbox is painted with the most intriguing murals. Not sure what this one is about, but it's entertaining. This pic was taken on June 6, 2014.

My theme this year is “Signs,Stickers, Street Art, and Graffiti on Maui.” As a departure from my A to Z Challenge posts in previous years, the blog posts will be very short. To read more about my theme and how I interpreted it, visit here

This photo of a save the bees mural was taken on 9/30/14, during an election year. But I don't know what legislation this sign is supporting. 2014 was a hot year for pesticide issues and an ordinance seeking a pesticide buffer zone around schools. Reduced pesticide use is healthier for honeybees. By the way, Hawaii has 7 native bee species which are endangered.

This 2012 sign was publicity for the Butterfly Effect, an annual event in April. It originated on Maui as a noncompetitive water event for women of all ages to paddle, swim, windsurf, or kiteboard in a supportive setting, but has spread to other countries around the world.
The Maui Butterfly Effect is happening again April 15, 2017.
