Bananas. Sometimes the Hookipa WWII pillbox is painted with the most intriguing murals. Not sure what this one is about, but it's entertaining. This pic was taken on June 6, 2014. |
My theme this year is “Signs,Stickers, Street Art, and Graffiti on Maui.” As a departure from my A to Z
Challenge posts in previous years, the blog posts will be very short. To read
more about my theme and how I interpreted it, visit here.
This photo of a save the bees mural was taken on 9/30/14, during an election year. But I don't know what legislation this sign is supporting. 2014 was a hot year for pesticide issues and an ordinance seeking a pesticide buffer zone around schools. Reduced pesticide use is healthier for honeybees. By the way, Hawaii has 7 native bee species which are endangered. |
This 2012 sign was publicity for the Butterfly Effect, an annual event in April. It originated on Maui as a noncompetitive water event for women of all ages to paddle, swim, windsurf, or kiteboard in a supportive setting, but has spread to other countries around the world. The Maui Butterfly Effect is happening again April 15, 2017. |
