October 2015 Maui Events At A Glance



October – A month for Halloween festivities and excitement. The crowning event is Halloween in Lahaina which always has packed attendance, crazy costumes, and plenty of traffic.  Other events include ghost stories at the MACC, Haunted Hikes and Hitchcock films. Fall festivals include Oktoberfest, Lahaina Plantation Days and Kula Country Farms Pumpkin Patch.


Please visit the websites to make sure the event dates, locations and times are still correct. Abbreviations: MACC stands for Maui Arts and Cultural Center.

Thursday, October 1, 7:30 pm. Psychic Migrations Film Premiere, featuring a cast of surfing’s most capable and compelling characters. No tickets required, seating is first come, first serve. MACC – Castle Theater, Wailuku. Free!

Thursday, October 1, Hitchcocktober at Queen Ka’ahuman Center. Every Thursday in October, a digitally remastered Alfred Hitchcock film will be screened at Ka’ahumanu Theater. $7.

Friday, October 2 – Sunday, October 4. Maui Pride Weekend. A celebration of pride and activism with films, festive dinners, and dance parties. Locations vary.

Friday, October 2, 8:30 am – 1:45 pm. Using Census Demographic Data to Build a Business Plan.  Malcolm Center, Kihei. $20 to register, includes lunch.

Friday, October 2, 5 pm – 10 pm. Kokua I Ka Hale Pule: Benefit Concert Fundraiser to Raise Monies to Restore and Repair Ka’ahumanu Church. Wailuku Community Center, $40 advance, $50 at the door.


Saturday, October 3, 11 am – 3 pm. Maui Pride Community Festival. A family-friendly event with live entertainment and face painting. This free community day is part of the Maui Pride Weekend. UH Maui’s Great Lawn. FREE! 

Saturday, October 3, 8 am – 2 pm. Maui Paddle For A Cure. Non competitive, fun open paddle to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Hyatt Regency, Lahaina. 

Saturday, October 3, Hana Parade, Ho’olaulea, and Talent Show. Parade, music, food, crafts, and talent show. Part of the Festivals of Aloha which is held on all islands. Hana Ball Park, Hana. 

Saturday, October 3, 10 am – 12 noon. 4th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes. Women Helping Women’s Annual Men’s March Against Domestic Violence. Men will walk a couple of laps in high heels in protest of domestic violence. $10 entry, fabulous prizes. Whaler’s Village, Ka’anapali.



Saturday, October 3, 5 pm – 10 pm. Zeptember VI at Mulligans. Maui’s finest musicians gather together to honor Led Zeppelin. Mulligans On The Blue, Wailea.  $28

Saturday, October 3, 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm. Freedom Dance. Celebrate the freedom of dance on Maui and support changes in the Maui County Liquor Commission rules. Currently, Maui prohibits unpermitted dancing in places liquor is served, even if it’s only grandma doing the hula. Makawao Union Church, by donation.

Sunday, October 4. Hana’s Ohana Beach Day. Fishing tournament, games and beach fun. Hana Bay, Hana. Free!

Wednesday, October 7, 5:30 pm. Free Google Workshop: Let’s Put Maui On The Map. Get your Maui business online. MACC. Free! 

Saturday, October 10 – Sunday, October 11. Paddle for Life – Voyage to Lanai 2015to raise funds for Pacific Cancer Foundation. Paddle with a team to Lanai, enjoy Hawaiian culture, and celebrate the voyage. Lahaina to Lanai. 

Saturday, October 10, 7 am. Women Helping Women Retro 80’s Fun Run/Walk Fundraiser. Prizes for best 80s costume. Revive Boutique, Kahului. 

Saturday, October 10, 6:30 – 9 pm. Hawaiian Sisterhood Art Show by Jazmin Sasky. Art and entertainment to support Women Helping Women. Tamara Catz boutique, Paia.

Saturday, October 10, 4 pm. Kahanu Garden’s ‘Ulu Cook-off. Enter a dish featuring breadfruit, that has at least 5 servings. Hana Ball Park, Hana.

Sunday, October 11, 8:30 am – 2 pm. King’s Cathedral Christmas Craft Fair. In case you want an early start. King’s Cathedral, Kahului. 

Tuesday, October 13. 6 pm. An evening of Hawaiian Lap Steel Guitar with Joel Katz. Musician Joel Katz will present a talk and concert on Hawaiian lap steel guitar. Kahului Library. Free!

Friday, October 16. 5:30 pm. Inaugural Kokua For Kids Little Chef Big Chef Fundraiser for The Boys and Girls Club. Silent auction, cocktail reception, farm to table menu, and culinary chef competition. Grand Wailea, Wailea. 

Friday, October 16 – Saturday, October 17. Lahaina Plantation Days. A celebration with food, fun, and music celebrating the history and culture of plantation life on Maui. Details TBA. My friend's blog talks about her family's history in Lahaina

Friday, October 23, 7 pm. The Green Room Presents: Barry Lopez. Initimate talk, book signing, and champagne reception with this famed nature writer, humanitarian, and environmentalist. $35, student tickets $10.

Friday, October 23, 10 pm. BLACKlight MAGIC- The Maui Blacklight Burlesque will present a Halloween- themed show with cabaret, skits, and lipsync contest. There will be a body painting station. Wear a costume. Casanova, Makawao. For 21 and older. $10 cover.

Saturday, October 24. 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Spooky Science. Maui Science Center brings spooky science to the Kihei library. Explore color, shadow, light and more! FREE!

Sunday, October 24. 6 pm - 10 pm, times various. Haunted Hayride - Zombie Shoot. Ghoulish fun shooting ghouls, ghosts and goblins with Maui Paintball. Olowalu. $39/person.

Monday, October 26 – Friday, October 30, 6 pm and 8:30 pm. Haunted Haiku Hike: PAIA Pan and the Darkest Tales of Neverland. Interactive Outdoor Theater Production for adults only. Awalau Farm, Haiku.  $25. 



Tuesday, October 27, 7 pm. Moku’ula by Moonlight. Kamehameha Iki Park, Lahaina. Hawaiian storytelling, sharing, and music under the full moon at Lahaina Restoration’s cultural site of Moku’ula.  Free! 


Wednesday, October 28, 6 pm – 7:30 pm. Thinking Like An Island. Local Maui authors who have contributed to Thinking Like An Island: Navigating A Sustainable Future in Hawaii will hold a panel discussion. UH – Maui Campus, Kahului. 

Thursday, October 29, 10 am. Boo-Tastic Boogie Stories. Mary Lynn Goode will present fun stories and music celebrating the non scary side of Halloweeen. Suitable for children 2-5. Makawao Public Library. Free!  

Thursday, October 29, 7:30 pm. 13 Candles, Ghost Stories. Noted storyteller Lopaka Kapanui tells scary stories interwoven with his knowledge of Hawaii. MACC.

Friday, October 30, 5 pm - 9 pm. Haunted Mayhem at Old Maui High School. Fun for the entire family. The haunted walk is over a mile long on the old school's property. $10/adults, $5 for kids up to age 11. Old Maui High School, Paia.

Saturday, October 31, 4:30 pm - ? Halloween in Lahaina. World famous celebration kicks off with family fun activities in Campbell Park at 3 pm, a keiki costume parade at 4:30 pm, costume contest, and music. Lahaina. Free! 

Saturday, October 31, 8 pm – 1 am. Halloween with Kings of Spades. 21+. $30 in advance. Costume theme – Dead Celebrity, music and dancing. King Kamehameha Golf Club, Waikapu.

A fun, safe Halloween party for the entire family: a parking lot full of cars giving away candy and treats, hayride, petting zoo, keiki fun zone, and food trucks. Hawaii Farmers Union public potluck meetings – held on the 3rd Thursday of the month, usually at the Maui Tropical Plantation and the 4th Tuesday of the month at Haiku Community Center. More info at HFUU Haleakala, closer to the day of the meeeting.
