October 2015 Maui Events At A Glance

October – A month for Halloween festivities and excitement. The crowning event is Halloween in Lahaina which always has packed attendance, crazy costumes, and plenty of traffic.  Other events include ghost stories at the MACC, Haunted Hikes and Hitchcock films. Fall festivals include Oktoberfest, Lahaina Plantation Days and Kula Country Farms Pumpkin Patch.

Thursday, October 1, 7:30 pm. Psychic Migrations Film Premiere, featuring a cast of surfing’s most capable and compelling characters. No tickets required, seating is first come, first serve. MACC – Castle Theater, Wailuku. Free!

Thursday, October 1, Hitchcocktober at Queen Ka’ahuman Center. Every Thursday in October, a digitally remastered Alfred Hitchcock film will be screened at Ka’ahumanu Theater. $7.

Friday, October 2 – Sunday, October 4. Maui Pride Weekend. A celebration of pride and activism with films, festive dinners, and dance parties. Locations vary.

Friday, October 2, 8:30 am – 1:45 pm. Using Census Demographic Data to Build a Business Plan.  Malcolm Center, Kihei. $20 to register, includes lunch.

Friday, October 2, 5 pm – 10 pm. Kokua I Ka Hale Pule: Benefit Concert Fundraiser to Raise Monies to Restore and Repair Ka’ahumanu Church. Wailuku Community Center, $40 advance, $50 at the door.

Saturday, October 3, 11 am – 3 pm. Maui Pride Community Festival. A family-friendly event with live entertainment and face painting. This free community day is part of the Maui Pride Weekend. UH Maui’s Great Lawn. FREE! 

Saturday, October 3, 8 am – 2 pm. Maui Paddle For A Cure. Non competitive, fun open paddle to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Hyatt Regency, Lahaina. 

Saturday, October 3, Hana Parade, Ho’olaulea, and Talent Show. Parade, music, food, crafts, and talent show. Part of the Festivals of Aloha which is held on all islands. Hana Ball Park, Hana. 

Saturday, October 3, 10 am – 12 noon. 4^th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes. Women Helping Women’s Annual Men’s March Against Domestic Violence. Men will walk a couple of laps in high heels in protest of domestic violence. $10 entry, fabulous prizes. Whaler’s Village, Ka’anapali.

Saturday, October 3, 5 pm – 10 pm. Zeptember VI at Mulligans. Maui’s finest musicians gather together to honor Led Zeppelin. Mulligans On The Blue, Wailea.  $28

Saturday, October 3, 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm. Freedom Dance. Celebrate the freedom of dance on Maui and support changes in the Maui County Liquor Commission rules. Currently, Maui prohibits unpermitted dancing in places liquor is served, even if it’s only grandma doing the hula. Makawao Union Church, by donation.

Friday, October 16. 5:30 pm. Inaugural Kokua For Kids Little Chef Big Chef Fundraiser for The Boys and Girls Club. Silent auction, cocktail reception, farm to table menu, and culinary chef competition. Grand Wailea, Wailea.

Wednesday, October 28, 6 pm – 7:30 pm. Thinking Like An Island. Local Maui authors who have contributed to Thinking Like An Island: Navigating A Sustainable Future in Hawaii will hold a panel discussion. UH – Maui Campus, Kahului.
