July ushers in 4th of July festivities, the annual Makawao rodeo, and other wonderful summer events. For pie lovers, the #PieTweetup should not be missed!

Wednesday, July 1, 6:30 pm. Moku’ula by Moonlight. A Hawaiian cultural experience: storytelling by descendants of the Moku’ula historic site and live music under a full moon. FREE! On the lawn next to the Hale Halawai in Kamehameha Iki Beach Park, 525 Front Street, Lahaina.

Wednesday, July 1 – Sunday, July 5. Jazz Maui presents free jazz concerts throughout Maui and also a special gala. Visit www.jazzmaui.com for schedule and locations.




Wednesday, July 1,  7 pm. Making Your Home A Sanctuary With Feng Shui. Free Workshop. Awakening in Paradise Bookstore, Kihei.

Thursday, July 2 – Saturday, July 4. 60th Annual Makawao Rodeo, Makawao. Some rodeo events are free, others have an admission fee.

Saturday, July 4, 11 am - ? Kids Ukulele Contest + giveaways. Saturdays in the Shade Concert featuring Eli-Mac + Super Dub Tribe. Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, Kahului. FREE!  

Saturday, July 4, 8:45 – 11 am. Makawao 4th of July Rodeo Parade. A tradition! FREE! 


Saturday, July 4, noon – 4 pm. Red, White and Blue Festival – 4th of July Celebration. Variety of festive activities include watching skydivers, gathering flowers dropped from a helicopter, duck race (rubber ducks?), watermelon eating contest and more. Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas, Ka’anapali. 

Saturday, July 4, 4 pm – 9 pm. 4th of July Celebration in Lahaina. Enjoy historic Lahaina town, specials at shops and restaurants, live jazz music and entertainment. Free fireworks at 8 pm. 

Saturday, July 4, 10 pm. Soul Kitchen Dance Your Dust off Party with Special Guest Joel Katz. Casanova Restaurant, Makawao. $10.


Sunday, July 5. 7 am – noon. Makawao Hongwanji Annual Rummage Sale. Find Japanese kimono, unusual items and house wares. Makawao.


Sunday, July 5, 2 – 5 pm. Upcountry Sundays at Casanova Maui. A musical celebration of the life of Les Adam, Makawao. 





Sunday, July 5, 7 pm. Mad Max Saga Movie Screenings at Maui Paintball. FREE!

Tuesday, July 7, 7 – 9 pm. Guitar Extravaganza. Special concert at Makawao Union Church. 
 $10 suggested donation.

Friday, July 10, 3- 5 pm. Guitar Concert at UH Maui College Science Building. FREE! 

Friday, July 10 – Saturday, July 11. Obon Dance and Festival at Paia Mantokuji Mission. Honoring the spirit of those who have passed with ceremony and festivals. Paia. FREE! More obon festivals throughout Maui on different dates can be found here.


Saturday, July 11, 7 am – 10 am. 5th Anniversary of the Upcountry Farmers Market. Free “farmers bucks” to the first 100 people to show up, samples from different vendors and a raffle. 55 Kiopa’a St., Makawao. Side parking lot near Pukalani Longs Pharmacy, follow the signs. FREE! Thursday, July 16. Pohaku –Dance Work-In-Progress. Enjoy this dance preview piece combining storytelling, music, hula, modern dance, to explore themes in the story of Hawaii’s native people.  Watch an excerpt here. MACC, Wailuku. FREE! 

Friday, July 17, 7:30 pm, Starry Night Cinema – Frozen, at the MACC. Bring a beach chair or a blanket and enjoy an outdoor summer movie with the family! FREE! 

Saturday, July 18, 11 am – 1 pm. 4th Annual Maui #PieTweetup. Bring a pie to share. Gathering of pie lovers and eaters, Kumu Farms Booth, Maui Tropical Plantation, Wailuku. FREE! What's it like? More pie than you can imagine. Here's a blog post from 2013 about the #PieTweetup.




Sunday, July 19, 10 am. Chado Urasenke Tankokai Maui Association's 25th Anniversary Dedicatory Tea Ceremony. Japanese Tea Ceremony. Rinzai Zen Mission, by Baldwin Beach Park, Paia. 

Sunday, July 19, 5 pm. Ebb & Flow Arts presents Sarn Oliver and Friends Concert at Seabury Hall, Olinda. FREE! 

Friday, July 24 – Saturday, July 25. The Mayjah Rayjah 2015 Music Festival. Reggae music at the MACC. 


Friday, July 24, 5 pm – 7 pm. Speed Date A Scientist. Grab a beer and pick through the brains of scientists working from ridge to reef in West Maui. First round of pupus will be provided for free. (No actual dating of scientists will be occurring at this event...well, not from 5-7 pm, anyway!) Maui Brewing Company, Kahana. 

Saturday, July 25, 9 am – noon. Ridge to Reef Rendezvous. Catch and release papi’o tournament (register at 8 am), look at interactive displays, culinary contest, limu poke challenge, stump an ecologist and more! FREE (including food)! Free yoga classes in July at Mangala Yoga Maui,

Mangayala Yoga Maui’s Spring 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Program just ended. These teachers are ready to share their knowledge by teaching FREE Classes to the community!

WOW - Wailea on Wednesday: On Wednesday nights in July at the Shops of Wailea, learn to play ukulele at “Ukulele Mix Plate,” 6 – 8 pm. FREE, but pay to park.

Labyrinth walks, on or near the full moon each month and on Thursday afternoons at the Sacred Garden of Maui, Makawao.

Hawaii Farmers Union United public potluck meetings – held on the 3rd Thursday of the month, usually at the Maui Tropical Plantation and the 4th Tuesday of the month at Haiku Community Center. More info at HFUU Haleakala (formerly known as Maui Farmers Union), closer to the day of the meeting.
