July ushers in 4^th of July festivities, the annual Makawao rodeo, and other wonderful summer events. For pie lovers, the #PieTweetup should not be missed!

Wednesday, July 1, 6:30 pm. Moku’ula by Moonlight. A Hawaiian cultural experience: storytelling by descendants of the Moku’ula historic site and live music under a full moon. FREE! On the lawn next to the Hale Halawai in Kamehameha Iki Beach Park, 525 Front Street, Lahaina.

Wednesday, July 1 – Sunday, July 5. Jazz Maui presents free jazz concerts throughout Maui and also a special gala. Visit www.jazzmaui.com for schedule and locations.

Saturday, July 4, 8:45 – 11 am. Makawao 4^th of July Rodeo Parade. A tradition! FREE! 

Saturday, July 4, noon – 4 pm. Red, White and Blue Festival – 4th of July Celebration. Variety of festive activities include watching skydivers, gathering flowers dropped from a helicopter, duck race (rubber ducks?), watermelon eating contest and more. Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas, Ka’anapali. 

Saturday, July 4, 4 pm – 9 pm. 4^th of July Celebration in Lahaina. Enjoy historic Lahaina town, specials at shops and restaurants, live jazz music and entertainment. Free fireworks at 8 pm. 

Saturday, July 4, 10 pm. Soul Kitchen Dance Your Dust off Party with Special Guest Joel Katz. Casanova Restaurant, Makawao. $10.

Sunday, July 5. 7 am – noon. Makawao Hongwanji Annual Rummage Sale. Find Japanese kimono, unusual items and house wares. Makawao.

Sunday, July 5, 2 – 5 pm. Upcountry Sundays at Casanova Maui. A musical celebration of the life of Les Adam, Makawao. 

Sunday, July 5, 7 pm. Mad Max Saga Movie Screenings at Maui Paintball. FREE!

Tuesday, July 7, 7 – 9 pm. Guitar Extravaganza. Special concert at Makawao Union Church.  $10 suggested donation.

Friday, July 10 – Saturday, July 11. Obon Dance and Festival at Paia Mantokuji Mission. Honoring the spirit of those who have passed with ceremony and festivals. Paia. FREE! More obon festivals throughout Maui on different dates can be found here.

Saturday, July 11, 7 am – 10 am. 5^th Anniversary of the Upcountry Farmers Market. Free “farmers bucks” to the first 100 people to show up, samples from different vendors and a raffle. 55 Kiopa’a St., Makawao. Side parking lot near Pukalani Longs Pharmacy, follow the signs. FREE! Saturday, July 18, 11 am – 1 pm. 4^th Annual Maui #PieTweetup. Bring a pie to share. Gathering of pie lovers and eaters, Kumu Farms Booth, Maui Tropical Plantation, Wailuku. FREE! What's it like? More pie than you can imagine. Here's a blog post from 2013 about the #PieTweetup.

Labyrinth walks, on or near the full moon each month and on Thursday afternoons at the Sacred Garden of Maui, Makawao.

Hawaii Farmers Union United public potluck meetings – held on the 3^rd Thursday of the month, usually at the Maui Tropical Plantation and the 4^th Tuesday of the month at Haiku Community Center. More info at HFUU Haleakala (formerly known as Maui Farmers Union), closer to the day of the meeting.
